Mitch McConnell’s Do Nothing Republicans Are Killing You | Robert ReichFormer Secretary of Labor Robert Reich excoriates Mitch McConnell for sending the Senate on vacation as the pandemic reaches its worst peak yet, and lays out the top policy priorities for a desperately needed disaster relief bill.

Food lines stretch for miles, 40 million people face eviction, and our Covid death toll is about equal to 9/11 every three days.
By the time the Senate returns on November 30, based on current trends, an additional estimated 16,000 Americans will have died from the virus.
People need disaster relief, and they need it now.
Congress must re-up expanded unemployment benefits, stop evictions and foreclosures, distribute another round of Paycheck Protection Program loans, shore up state and local governments, and protect essential workers.
When the last Covid relief package was passed on March 27th, there were 18,093 new cases that day. Now, there are over 150,000 new cases every day. With hospitalizations lagging behind cases, and deaths lagging behind hospitalizations, it’s clear that this is going to get much, much worse unless people shelter in place. But most Americans can’t do this without relief.
The writing is on the wall. Do your job, Mitch McConnell.
Our lives depend on it.#McConnell #Senate #Covid

The Real Reason Trump Won’t ConcedeFormer Secretary of Labor Robert Reich exposes how Trump is swindling his supporters through his meaningless "Official Election Defense Fund".
Watch More: Trump's Attempt to Steal the Election Won't Work ►►https://youtu.be/-pnyn_r4KJ4
Trump has launched an “Official Election Defense Fund,” bombarding his supporters with fundraising appeals to supposedly finance the campaign’s ongoing litigation against nonexistent voter fraud.
But the fine print tells a different story.
60 percent of a donation to Trump’s “Official Election Defense Fund” goes to Save America, Trump’s new leadership Political Action Committee that he set up less than a week after the election. The other 40 percent goes to the Republican National Committee. So if someone donates $500, Trump’s PAC gets $300, the RNC gets the other $200, and not a cent actually goes to the election defense fund.
Trump is lining his pockets by attacking our elections and undermining our democracy — and swindling his supporters every step of the way.

Georgia Runoffs: How You Can Help Flip the Senate | Robert ReichFormer Secretary of Labor Robert Reich explains what's at stake in Georgia's Senate runoff races, and outlines how you can help flip the Senate.
Both of Georgia’s Senate races are going into runoffs, as no candidate in either race received more than 50 percent of the vote. Reverend Raphael Warnock is facing off against Republican incumbent Kelly Loeffler. And Jon Ossoff is challenging Republican David Perdue.
David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler represent the worst of the Republican Party: peddling racism, governing for personal gain while ignoring the needs of their constituents, and parroting Trump's deadly lies.
Here’s what you can do to make the biggest impact in this make-or-break fight, which will determine whether we take back the Senate from Majority Leader Mitch McConnell:
— Georgians have until December 7th to register to vote in the runoffs. You can make calls to Georgia voters to help them get registered before the deadline. 17-year-old Georgians who turn 18 by January 5, 2021 are eligible to vote in the run-off election that will be held on that date. Please spread the word.
— Let locals lead. Donate directly to the candidates’ campaigns and to grassroots organizations led by communities of color, who worked tirelessly to register new voters and mobilize the state for Joe Biden. FairFight Action, New Georgia Project, and Black Voters Matter Fund are a few of the organizations to support in this moment and beyond. You can split a donation between FairFight and the two campaigns by going to GASenate.com, and donate to New Georgia Project (newgeorgiaproject.org) and Black Voters Matter Fund (blackvotersmatterfund.org) at their websites.
— Volunteer with the Warnock and Ossoff campaigns. You can find all the information you need by heading to mobilize.us/fairfightaction, mobilize.us/electjon, or mobilize.us/warnockforgeorgia.
The stakes couldn’t be higher. Let’s bring this home, flip the Senate, and usher in the transformative change this nation requires.

Debunking Trump's Post-Election Lies | Robert ReichFormer Secretary of Labor Robert Reich debunks some of the baseless claims Trump and his lackeys are promoting in key swing states.

Even though Joe Biden won the highest percentage of the popular vote for any challenger since FDR in 1932, the Trump campaign is fighting in courtrooms across the country in a desperate attempt to overturn the results.
So far, they’ve been utterly unsuccessful.
Why? They have no evidence to back up their claims of widespread voter fraud.
Trump and his lackeys have no standing to change the outcome of the election. But with GOP leaders pushing his lies, nearly half the country is coming to believe the election was stolen — and that is almost as dangerous.
Joe Biden will be our next president. But we need to aggressively knock down every baseless claim made by Trump and the GOP, to defend not just Biden’s victory, but also, the trust on which American democracy is based.

Trump can bluster and protest all he wants, but like it or not, the Constitution and federal law establish a clear timeline of how electoral votes are processed, and when the new president takes office.
Normally, no one pays much attention to this process before Inauguration Day because it goes off without a hitch. But we’ve seen that Trump will do anything to hold onto power. It’s important to know how and when he might try to undermine this process, and also understand how unlikely it is he’ll succeed.
Trump backers are trying to push Republican-controlled state legislatures to appoint their own slates of Trump electors. That’s why the campaign has launched empty legal challenges to perfectly normal vote counts -- trying to sow enough doubt to give the state legislatures political cover to appoint their own electors.
Thankfully, it doesn’t look like Republican legislators in any of the key swing states want to expend their political capital defending a failed president, and some have even explicitly come out against this plan.
All this is to say, be patient, keep the faith, and don’t fall into Trump’s cry for attention. We must see this for what it is: A final attempt of a desperate, bitter man to cling to power.
Joe Biden will be our next president.

Know Your Voting Rights | Robert ReichFormer Secretary of Labor Robert Reich breaks down everything you need to know about your voting rights as you head to the polls.
If you run into any trouble voting, call the nonpartisan Election Protection Hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE (888-VE-Y-VOTA for Spanish speakers) or go to 866ourvote.org.
First, if you’re still waiting in line as polls begin to officially close, do not leave.
Second, if voting machines are down at your polling location, ask officials for a paper ballot instead.
Third, if you think you made a mistake on your ballot, ask officials for a new one.
Fourth, if you requested an absentee ballot and did not use it, you are still allowed to vote in-person in every state but Kentucky.
Fifth, if your local elections official says you’re not on the roll of registered voters, don’t panic. Confirm that you’re at the right polling place by double-checking with the official, or with the Election Protection hotline.
Sixth, voters with disabilities or limited English proficiency have the right to get help voting from someone of their choice, as long as the person assisting isn’t an agent of the voter’s employer or union, or the employer themselves.
Seventh, be prepared in case someone challenges your qualifications to vote. In many states you can submit a sworn statement to a poll worker affirming your eligibility, and then cast your ballot.
Lastly, while voter intimidation is rare, it is illegal, and it's important to be able to recognize it and know what to do if you see it happen.
This year’s election is a crucial test of our democracy. It should go without saying that every eligible voter must have their voice heard, and their vote counted. Let’s work together to make sure it happens.

Can We Create a Just America? with Rev. Dr. William J. Barber IIReverend Dr. William J. Barber II explains how we can build on the momentum of local victories for democracy reform, and unrig our system to build a truly just America.

It’s easy to feel downtrodden as every aspect of our broken system is laid bare. As the rights of millions of Americans hang in the balance, it feels more and more like the system is stacked against us.
But we can’t become cynics — we will not give up. Across the country, everyday people have secured structural democracy reforms that have led to major wins that move our country forward.
In Seattle, Missouri, Connecticut, and North Carolina, grassroots coalitions have risen up against the status quo and secured crucial victories in campaign finance reform, expanding Medicaid, raising the minimum wage, and expanding access to the ballot box.
We can build on the momentum of these grassroots victories, and let these activists inspire us to get bold reforms enacted on the federal level. We have the potential to mobilize an historic turnout in this election, giving tens of millions of poor and low wealth eligible voters hope that their participation in this election could lead to real, transformative change.
2020 has awakened the country to the full breadth of the injustices that have plagued us for centuries, and pushed us to the point where transformational change is the only path forward. This election is just the beginning.

The Stock Market is Not the Economy | Robert ReichFormer Secretary of Labor Robert Reich explains why the stock market doesn't reflect the real economy.
Watch More: The System: Who Rigged It, How We Fix It ►► https://youtu.be/Y_sjfchNsiM
Stock values roughly reflect profits, especially anticipated profits. When profits are expected to rise, stock prices trend upward.
But that only raises a deeper question: How can profits trend upward when jobs and wages do badly?
Since the late 1980s, the main way to get profits and stock prices up has been to keep payrolls down. Corporations have done whatever they can to increase profits by cutting jobs and wages. They've then used their profits and gone deep into debt to buy back shares of their own stock, thereby pumping up share prices and creating an artificial sugar-high for the stock market.
All this has made the rich even richer, while having the opposite effect for everyone else. More and more of the total economy is going into profits and high stock prices benefiting those at the top, while less and less is going into worker wages and salaries. Today, America's richest 1 percent own half of the stock market, and the richest 10 percent own 92 percent of it.
So the next time you hear someone say the stock market is a reflection of the economy, tell them that’s rubbish! The real economy is jobs and wages.

Trump's Failed Coronavirus Response Part 2 | Robert ReichFormer Secretary of Labor Robert Reich provides an updated month-by-month look at how Trump's failed coronavirus response has killed nearly 230,000 Americans and crippled the American economy.

The United States is supposed to be a world leader. The president of the United States is supposed to keep Americans safe. But America has suffered the worst rate of coronavirus deaths among all advanced countries — a death toll equal to 9/11 every three days.
This is not leadership. It is pure, malicious incompetence and it’s killing Americans.
In one week, we will hold him accountable with our vote.
